Florida Leak Patrol

Do a Simple Water Loss Test

All pools lose some water due to evaporation. Follow the instructions below to determine if your water loss is a leak in the pool or normal evaporation.

Place a filled  bucket of water on the first or second step of your pool. With a pencil, mark the water level in the bucket. Turn off the pool pump and let the water settle. Now mark the water level inside the skimmer. After 24 hours, measure the difference in the actual water level with your marks. Compare the measurement in the skimmer with that in the bucket. Any excess loss in the pool compared to the bucket is the result of a
leak.
Evaporation or Pool Leaking?
General rule of thumb is that most pools will lose between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch per day due to normal evaporation. Pools with water features such as waterfalls and fountains
may lose slightly  more. This excess loss due to water features will not show up in the bucket test so bear that in mind.

If you discover  that your pool is losing a 1/4 inch more than the bucket in a 24 hour period, you most likely have a leak. Please call or e-mail us a service request so that we can discuss our leak detection services with you.
